What are transit plates and who are they for?
Transit plates (export plates) are a temporary vehicle registration that lets you legally drive a vehicle that is not yet permanently registered. Unlike most EU systems, where temporary plates are valid only domestically or require presenting the vehicle at an office, Lithuanian transit plates are issued from documents alone. Your vehicle can be anywhere in Europe.

Every order includes a document set: the temporary registration certificate with VIN, insurance documents and a multi-language procedure sheet, so any roadside or border check goes smoothly.
What is the temporary registration certificate?
Together with the transit plates, Regitra issues a temporary vehicle registration certificate. It is an official state document confirming that the vehicle is temporarily registered in Lithuania and may legally take part in traffic. It lists the make, model, VIN, colour, keeper and the expiry date of the registration.
The fields carry the EU-harmonised codes used on permanent registration documents across Europe: D.1 is the make, E is the VIN, H is the expiry date. An officer at any roadside check can read it without translation. You show it together with the plates and the insurance, and once the 30 days run out the vehicle is registered permanently in the destination country.

We issue plates to private buyers and to businesses. One vehicle costs €129.99 whoever orders it. Business customers, meaning dealers, transport companies and fleets, ordering 2 or more vehicles pay €79.99 per vehicle, invoices are issued in the company name, and quotes are ready within 1 working hour. A private buyer ordering 2 or more vehicles also gets a lower price.

Trucks, trailers and buses
For heavy vehicles, temporary plates elsewhere cost multiples of the car price: in the Netherlands one-day truck insurance alone runs €235, and Polish border insurance for trucks costs about €600 for 30 days.

How long are transit plates valid?
30 days from the date of issue. Within that period the vehicle should be permanently registered in its destination country.
Does the vehicle need to be presented?
No. Registration is completed from documents, and the vehicle can be in any country. This is the key difference from most EU systems.
Is a valid roadworthiness test (MOT/TÜV) required?
No. For export registration the roadworthiness requirement does not apply under the registration rules.
How much do transit plates cost?
The service fee for one car is €129.99. Business customers ordering 2 or more vehicles pay €79.99 per vehicle. The fee covers all the work from preparing the documents to dispatch. Can private individuals order?
Yes. We issue plates to private customers too: one vehicle costs €129.99, and if you order 2 or more we will offer a lower price. A company registration number is not required. You only provide one if you are ordering on behalf of a company and need an invoice.
